Binary to Text Converter
This tool decodes binary straight to readable text. Paste in a string of 0s and 1s
and get back English letters, numbers, and punctuation. The direction is locked, so there
is no auto detect step and nothing to choose first.
How to decode binary to text
- Paste your binary into the input box. Spaces, line breaks, and 0b prefixes are all handled automatically, so there is no need to clean the string first.
- The tool splits the binary into 8 digit bytes and decodes each one to its character.
- Read the decoded text in the output box, or expand the breakdown to see how each group of 8 digits became one letter, number, or symbol.
- Copy the result, or use Swap if you need to go the other way. That sends your output straight into the Text to Binary Converter as the new input.
How binary becomes text
Every 8 digit binary byte maps to one decimal number between 0 and 255. That decimal number then maps to a single character on the ASCII table. Here is Hi! decoded one byte at a time.

This is the same ASCII mapping every tool on this site uses. Programmers run into it constantly, for example when a Java program prints a byte array and it needs turning back into readable text by hand.
Most computers today do not stop at plain ASCII though. As of September 2026, UTF-8 is used on 99.0 percent of websites with a known character encoding, according to W3Techs. UTF-8 was built to include ASCII as its first 128 characters, so anything this tool decodes correctly is already valid UTF-8 too.
Who this is actually for
- Students checking a binary to ASCII homework answer by hand.
- Programmers decoding a raw byte string from a log file, a network packet, or a Java or Python bit operation.
- Anyone who found a string of 0s and 1s somewhere online and wants to know what it actually says.
